The Postsecondary Commission ("PSC") is new accreditor. Its mission is to enable a movement of innovative colleges -- both new and existing ones -- that create economic opportunity for their students and that are willing to be held accountable for doing so in exchange for access to public funding. PSC is currently seeking federal recognition from the US Department of Education as an institutional accreditor. PSC's initial name, in 2021 and 2022, was College101.

Fishtank Learning (www.fishtanklearning.org) is a leading open-source curriculum website. It grants teachers and school leaders free or low-cost access to high-quality, standards-aligned, and proven instructional materials (i.e. lesson plans, assessments, and instructional guides) in core K-12 subjects. Fishtank Learning is one of the largest and fastest growing open-source curriculum websites in the US. I co-founded and led Fishtank for several years while it operated as a subsidiary of Match Education, and I serve as the board chair of the organization which spun out of Match Education in 2020 to become a longstanding ed-tech nonprofit.

Duet (www.Duet.org) is often referred to as a "hybrid college." It is an innovative college and jobs organization that helps young adults from low-income households earn high-quality, affordable college degrees and qualify for career-track jobs. Duet provides academic and life coaching to students who are enrolled in a specialized, competency-based online degree platform at SNHU. I co-founded and led Duet.org when it was a subsidiary at Match Education, and I now serve as board chair of Duet.org which spun out of Match in 2018 to become lone-standing non-profit organization. Duet.org is nationally recognized as an exceptionally successful, scalable innovation in US higher education.

I was a part-time member of the faculty in the Entrepreneurial Management Unit at Harvard Business School where I taught and wrote about entrepreneurship and higher education. I was also on the faculty at HBS earlier in my career, between stints as an entrepreneur.

I was the CEO of Match Education (www.matcheducation.org) from 2011 to 2018. Prior to becoming Match's CEO in 2011, I was on the board of Match Education for many years. Match Education mainly runs high-performing preK-12 public charter schools for low-income students and operated a lone-standing graduate school of education that trained novice teachers for high-poverty schools.

Newark Charter School Fund, which I founded and ran for several years, was an operating foundation -- financed by several large national foundations -- that supported charter schools and general school reform in Newark, NJ.

After working at Amazon.com for two years following its purchase of Exchange.com, I joined Harvard Business School as a full-time faculty member. I taught entrepreneurship in various MBA and executive education programs, and I did research on the intersection of entrepreneurship and education reform. I developed HBS’s first course on education reform.

Following Amazon.com's acquisition of Exchange.com, I worked for two years at Amazon.com in various operating and strategic planning roles. I ran a business unit called zShops (which was one of Amazon.com's early efforts at third-party commerce), and I worked as Jeff Bezos' "shadow" towards the end of my stay at Amazon.com. Jeff Bezos' "shadow" is a position roughly akin to special assistant.

After graduate school, I founded and ran Exchange.com, an early competitor to eBay.com. Exchange.com operated online marketplaces for buyers and sellers of rare and used books, music titles, and other hard-to-find consumer products. The company was funded primarily by Polaris Partners and Accel. Rather than pursue an IPO, Exchange.com was purchased two years after inception by Amazon.com. Amazon.com acquired Exchange.com to speed up its then-emerging marketplace business unit, which facilitates commerce among its customers and third-party sellers.

My second job after college was as an Assistant Principal at St. Mark the Evangelist School, a parochial PreK-8 school in Harlem. I taught in St. Mark's after school program and helped managed the school's finances and operations.

My first job after college was as a business analyst at McKinsey in New York. I worked mainly on studies in the telecommunications industry.
