Leeds City Credit Union Limited is a community based financial services organisation supporting over 30,000 members with savings, affordable loans and financial advice.Appointed as Head of Finance at the beginning of September 2022, becoming the fourth person to hold the role in just under two years. With a 30th September year end I had to navigate the organisation through a very tricky Audit with a relatively large number of issues that had to be resolved. The second year end for 2023 was significantly smoother with far less issues.The composition of the Finance Team was changed and reorganised to improve effectiveness.Reporting processes were enhanced and streamlined, with output improving.A totally new Budget and Forecasting process was created and introduced providing more detailed and effective forecasting to enable the organisation to react and amend business plans accordingly.With SMF8 responsibility all of the relevant returns and disclosures have been sent to the PRA & FCA.Currently working to increase outside Investment that will secure the future of the Credit Union for the foreseeable future.

I have worked on a number of interim assignments as follows, with the most recent first- British Business Bank Limited - working as Finance Business Partner for their Investment portfolio division to provide relevant up to date financial information to assist decision making- Caistor Seafoods Limited - working as Financial Controller to assist with Group reporting to Japanese parent company- Squire Patton Boggs (UK) LLP - working as Partnership Accounting for fourteen months dealing with the financial and taxation affairs of over 100 European Partners.- BES Utilities - engaged as an interim Head of Finance for a thirteen months assignment, assisting with the Group Financial reporting, auditing, forecasting and financial management of the Group, its subsidiaries and related parties.- TSP Projects Limited - six month assignment covering BAU for FC to allow him to concentrate on implementation of new system and migration to SAP.- Morgan Sindall Property Services - contact to assist newly appointed FC and FD with accounting provision, budgeting, forecasting and year end accounts production.- Speedloan Finance Limited - acting as Financial Controller to assist with the migration of the finance department to a new head office in London, brought in to add BAU experience during the five month transition. - Walker Morris LLP - acting as interim FC for five months whilst encumbent on remainder of maternity leave. Enabled the firm to migrate onto improved accounting system.- Keepmoat Property Services - seven month contract acting as FD/FC whilst facilitating its demerger into two separate business units within the Regeneration division. Also trained and developed the Management Accountant to be able to continue with the work within one of the two units.- Miller Pattison Limited - nine month contract firstly assisted with the turnaround of the business by preparing cash flow and business plans then acting as interim FD.

I provide Financial Consultancy services to clients, for example an interim placement as Chief Financial Officer to Autoprotect Ltd, to enable them to complete their year-end audit process. As Honorary Treasurer and Council Member of the Consumer Credit Association, I provide them with professional advice and auditing services to a wide range of clients.

Norton is an independent, family-owned group of 7 limited companies which provides its clients with financial products including mortgages, loans, insurance and debt-management solutions. It has 180 staff and a turnover of £12m.This was a newly-created role to establish effective financial controls, systems and processes to restore profitability. I created a robust Budget and Forecasting model that persuaded the company's bankers to finance the company's expansion by 20%. After the first year my actions transformed a loss of £2m to a profit of £1m.

The company offered financial solutions to enable customers with an impaired credit rating to purchase new vehicles. It employed 85 staff and a largely home-based salesforce. It had a turnover of £3m and a HP Motor Loan Book of £60m. I led a team of 6 and was accountable for all financial reporting, relationships with advisors and investors, corporate governance, company secretarial duties, car fleet management and employee benefits. The company was sold after its major investor, Merrill Lynch, collapsed in the 2008 credit crunch.

This company specialised in providing tailored finance for the purchase of motor vehicles. It had 14 branches in the UK, employed 200 staff and had a turnover of £25m, with a HP Motor Loan Book of £500m. I was appointed initially as Financial Controller but after a year was promoted to Finance Director. I led a team of 10, providing all financial reporting, relationships with bankers, auditors and professional advisors, company secretarial duties, corporate governance, fleet management, property and facilities management,employee reward and benefits, and direct and indirect taxation.
