About Steve Mee

I am a Certified Accountant (FCCA) with extensive board-level experience as a Finance Director gained within the Financial Services sector. I have a successful track record of leading major financial projects such as strategic business reviews, commercial feasibility analyses, cost rationalisation and system implementations to restore profitability to under-performing businesses. Since September 2011 I have run my own financial consultancy business, including advisory work for the Consumer Credit Trade Association. After qualifying I became a Senior Accountant with Pannell Kerr Forster before joining Close Motor Finance (HP Motor Loan Book £250m) as Financial Controller. Promoted to Finance Director in 1997, I led a team of 10. In 2006 I joined Blue Motor Finance Ltd as Group Finance Director (HP Motor Loan Book £60m) but was made redundant in October 2008 following the collapse of their main investor, Merrill Lynch. After a 6-month Interim appointment as Financial Controller for Little Chef, in 2009 I joined Norton Finance Group as Group Finance Director (Mortgage Portfolio Loan Book £38m). I transformed their performance from a £2m loss to a £1m profit in the first year.

With a 30th September year end I had to navigate the organisation through a very tricky Audit with a relatively large number of issues that had to be resolved. The second year end for 2023 was significantly smoother with far less issues.The composition of the Finance Team was changed and reorganised to improve effectiveness.Reporting processes were enhanced and streamlined, with output improving.A totally new Budget and Forecasting process was created and introduced providing more detailed and effective forecasting to enable the organisation to react and amend business plans accordingly.With SMF8 responsibility all of the relevant returns and disclosures have been sent to the PRA & FCA.Currently working to increase outside Investment that will secure the future of the Credit Union for the foreseeable future.

Also trained and developed the Management Accountant to be able to continue with the work within one of the two units.- Miller Pattison Limited - nine month contract firstly assisted with the turnaround of the business by preparing cash flow and business plans then acting as interim FD.
