Stephen has 40 years experience working with technology sector businesses, ranging from start-ups to global companies. Projects he has worked on have generated quantifiable benefits worth over $100 million. He is a Professorial Teaching Fellow in Innovation and Impact at University College London (UCL) and Deputy Director (Innovation) of the UCL School of Management. He has spent the last ten years designing and launching UCL's new Management Science BSc/MSci. This innovative, interdisciplinary programme is focused on complex, innovation-intensive, data-driven environments and graduated its first Cohort of students in 2017. The programme received an overall student satisfaction score of 94% in the 2020 National Student Survey and was the #1 rated programme in the management studies category among Russell Group business schools.Stephen started his career as a computer science researcher specialising in the application of artificial intelligence. He spent ten years with Hewlett-Packard, where he led the company’s long-range research on artificial intelligence and patient monitoring and created a new R&D centre for HP’s Medical Products Group. After HP, he spent seven years with management consultants PRTM (now part of PwC), where he helped global companies transform their product development and innovation performance. Over the last 20 years, he has been involved with a number of initiatives in the UK and China focused on helping early-stage companies unlock growth, including the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses and 10,000 Women programmes. He is a Visiting Professor at Zhejiang University’s Global Entrepreneurship Center (GERC) and was Chairman of the Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG). Stephen has an MA in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, an Executive MBA from the London Business School, a Master of Studies in Creative Writing from the University of Oxford, and is a Fellow of the RSA.He is a student in the first Cohort of the Royal College of Art's new Creative Education MEd programme.
