What a year it has been. Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) was a dream of mine since I was 15. The Appalachian Trail (AT), and the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) became a dream within the last 7 years. After the realization that if I didn’t put a timeline to it, then it wouldn’t happen, I planned to hike all three in 2023. With my Partner in support of my journey, I quit my job in Portland and I started hiking the AT on February 25th, 2023 and finished hiking the CDT on November 9, 2023. I completed the AT, the PCT, and all of the CDT (except the section through Colorado due to weather!). Only 18 people have ever achieved hiking all 3 in a calendar year. It took me 258 days averaging 24.8 miles a day for a total of 6,400 miles. My longest distanced hiked in a single 24 hour period was 73 miles. Imagine being cold, wet and miserable and having to hike 15 miles on a bag of mixed nuts to get to the next town. Imagine it being 100 degrees in direct sunlight and a 3,000ft climb in front of you with a liter of water that tastes like sulfur. While only 2 examples, this was my life for 258 days. Every day I learned to listen to my body and nature, I developed extensive grit, and learned how to creatively problem solve. Being immersed in nature during this journey, made me appreciate the need for wild spaces, the continual protection of our natural resources, and spreading selflessness throughout the world. After completing the journey I moved in with my Partner in Manchester, Vermont. I'm incredibly thankful for my family and friends supporting my once in a lifetime journey. While hiking Colorado on the CDT is still on the horizon for the future, I'm ready to start this next chapter of life.I'm actively searching for my next career move in Civil Engineering.
