The suspension bridge technology allows for a training opportunity to learn skills including basic masonry, carpentry and ground-work techniques.     The HSC Unit was disbanded due to Sequestration. -- Crew Member of USCG Historical Ships Company (USCG HSC). This group is comprised of members of Coast Guard Auxiliary and active duty Coast Guard personnel. The active duty military personnel, living history interpreters and educators are from throughout the Virginia Tidewater region. The living history program travels to US seaboard and inland ports and other locations to provide the public an opportunity to experience life and conditions aboard a 19th century revenue cutter by participating in hands-on educational activities and vignettes provided by the interpreters. The unit’s display includes a 12-foot-square reproduction cutter gun deck. Members of the HSC demonstrate and interpret navigation, cooking and food preservation, shipboard medicine, gunnery, boatswain duties and a variety of other duties carried out by cuttermen serving aboard an early 19th century revenue cutter.
