About Alex Stout

I am passionate about youth character development and education, dedicated volunteer and professional with youth organizations. Driven to see a brighter future and provide quality programs to our youth. As a Scouting Professional, healthy volunteer relationships and membership growth/retention are primary focuses.I am a graduate of West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). As a student at West Virginia University, I learned valuable skills in GIS, including but not limited to, ArcGIS, ESRI CityEngine, cartographic design principles, remote sensing, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), etc. I also have a background in non-profit management through my tenure as a mentor and former founding member of the Mountaineer Area RoboticS, or MARS team, a high school robotics program participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition and an umbrella organization and supporter for robotics programs throughout West Virginia.

Working with a team of volunteers, I manage the financial performance, program administration, risk management, and compliance/accreditation standards of the council's camping programs at Broad Creek and across central Maryland, in addition to serving as the summer camp director to summer resident camp programs, where we deliver the pinnacle, life-changing experience to hundreds of Scouts each summer.

    The Camp Director is the lead administrator in summer camp operation, responsible for budget planning, facility operation, program delivery, and safety. My team of 35 program and administrative employees delivered a season of successful Scouts BSA and Cub Scout Resident Camp programs. The 2019 resident camps saw 499 youth and 183 adults participate in our life-changing programs at Camp Mountaineer, a 5.2% increase over the previous year. In 2019, Camp Mountaineer was accredited via the BSA's National Camp Accreditation standards with top marks, showing adherence to the BSA's utmost safety and program quality and delivery standards.
