I joined Pedersen Read Ltd in the position of Senior Electrical Engineer in August 2011. My role with the company is to prepare electrical design documentation in a senior capacity for our draughting team to complete electrical working drawings. This includes liaising with our clients, completing engineering calculations and design, specifications and project management. Since rejoining Pedersen Read, I have been involved in the University of Otago Science Precinct Redevelopment, Marsh Study Centre, The Christchurch Arts Centre Reconstruction project, Southern Institute of Technology Student Accommodation, Clutha Health First Hospital Redevelopment, Otago Regional Council Lighting upgrade and new Council Chamber Building and numerous emergency lighting and fire alarm upgrades for schools throughout Otago and Southland.

In July 2002 I started with MacLeod and Associates as an Electrical Design Engineer. My role included the complete design of electrical working drawings, engineering calculations and specifications for contract documentation. Liaising with Architects, clients and contractors in the design and implementation of building services projects. Some examples of the projects I have been involved with whilst at MacLeod and Associates included University of Otago Psychology Building and Hunter Centre, Otago Settlers Museum Redevelopment, Edgar Centre Lion Foundation Arena, Columba College New Sports Centre, Oamaru Penguin Colony Viewing Structure Lighting, Port Otago Container Wharf Lighting, Les Mills Gym Redevelopment, Mercy Hospital MRI and CT units and Oamaru Police Station.

My position involved promoting and selling the company’s range of trade electrical products to wholesalers, electrical contractors, electrical engineers and architects throughout my territory to the company sales plans and budgets. I was very successful at ensuring sales volumes and profitability. In July 2000 I was awarded the General Managers Sales Person of the Year in appreciation of outstanding sales results and area management. I was promoted to South Island Sales Manager in February 2001 and I was responsible for the operational overview of the South Island sales team, which comprised myself and sales representatives based in Christchurch. I was part of the HPM Regional Sales Management Team which was responsible for annual sales planning, forecasting and budget processes including channel marketing plans.

I was invited to join the design team at Energy Group in a newly created position as Operations Planning Manager. I headed a team of Design Engineers and CAD Draughting staff. My duties included marketing the company’s services throughout the South Island, preparing fee submissions, co-ordinating the work and staff, project management, account invoicing and general management. Other duties involved Information Technology support for Energy Group’s systems and staff as well as maintenance of the company local area network, including regular network backups. I was part of Energy Group’s Business Development Team. I was also responsible for the administration of Energy Group’s quality assurance programme and ongoing staff training.

I left school to join Pedersen and Partners as a Draughtsperson my duties included completing working electrical drawings for contract documentation, plan printing and general office work. Whilst working I studied part time towards my NZCE (Electrical) Intermediate. I was promoted to Assistant Engineer carrying out Electrical Services design of smaller commercial projects, on site observation and assisting the Senior Engineer. I was then promoted to Design Engineer and was responsible for complete Electrical Services design of larger scale commercial projects, on site observation and project management. Examples of projects I had responsibility for include the majority of New World Supermarkets in the lower South Island, Dunedin Public Art Gallery, Kavanagh College Redevelopment, Wakari Hospital Redevelopment, University of Otago Commerce Building and National Bank Upgrades throughout Otago and Southland
