Biggest achievement during this period was to get the business to really adopt analytics and base decisions of information and not just gut. Myself and my manager started out as a two-man team and since built our area up to a 15+ team integral to the business. Some of my work includes building a customer focused datamart by overlaying various sources of information to create a more complete view of the customer – so we were suddenly looking at a person, and not a transaction! After being at Cell C for about a year, I received a promotion to be a senior data miner. During this time I worked closely with consultancy companies on creating a customer focused datamart for the company to better enable quick, easy and insightful reporting.

A fresh graduate, I joined Cell C as a junior data miner. This position required me to build statistical prediction models, do reporting and presentations, extract lists for campaigning, doing post campaign analytics etc.

While being a final year student I had the opportunity to also be a junior lecturer for six months in the statistics department of the NWU (South Africa).
