About Mette Strange Noesgaard

I am an Associate Professor at Aalborg University, part of the Center for IT Management (CIM) research group. My research centers on the managerial and organizational implications of digitalization and digital transformation. I specialize in exploring the dynamic interplay between technology and organizations, leveraging longitudinal case studies to investigate cutting-edge topics. These include the organizational and societal impacts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the complexities of implementing large-scale legacy systems, such as Electronic Patient Journals (EPJ) and Health Record Systems (CURA).By bridging the gap between technological innovation and organizational aspects, I aim to deepen our understanding of digitalization in practice and its transformative potential. Most recent publications:- Fyshchuk, I., Noesgaard, M. Research Assistant

    Aarhus
Currently, as a research assistant, I am actively involved in teaching and course development at Aarhus University. This semester, I have developed and started up a HRM course at the bachelor level where I am course responsible and teach all lectures. Additionally, I am teaching a Master level elective, "Employee emotions, attitudes and behavior" that is being offered for the fourth time. I was involved in the development and start-up of the course in 2013, and my responsibility has increased to be course responsible where I teach all lectures for the second year in a row. Finally, this semester I am involved in about half the lectures of teaching Ledelse af teams in the HD program. Besides teaching, I am actively involved in various international projects. For example, I am involved as co-investigator in a Workplace BC grant application for a research project on Presenteeism. Together with researchers from Canada and Australia and industry partners from British Columbia, Canada, this project applies a quantitative research design to identify and quantify relationships between presenteeism (i.e. working despite being ill), customer service and emotional stressors and demands, and workplace accidents and injuries. Additionally, I am working on projects on work place commitment and work engagement in the public sector.

The dissertation addresses the topic of the individual level perception of work engagement in caregiving organizations. Engaged employees are described as highly energetic individuals who are enthusiastic about their work, and are able to completely immerse themselves in their work activities. Engagement is thus of particular interest in caregiving organizations, which rely on high quality service and personal investment on the part of the caregivers. Although a vast amount of research has been aimed at defining and refining our understanding of work engagement, limited knowledge exists regarding the process in which engagement is experienced, and how this experience is influenced by context. To address this gap, the overall research question guiding this dissertation is formulated accordingly:"How do caregivers’ perceptions of their work context influence their experience of work engagement?" With this question, the dissertation aims to provide an in-depth understanding of how engagement is experienced. In doing so, the study goes beyond the typical engagement research, which often explains engagement through the lens of the resources and demands of workAs a whole, this dissertation contributes to the existing engagement literature by emphasizing the process in which individuals experience engagement. Engagement cannot be understood solely by considering resources and demands, as certain unobservable processes occur in the interplay between the individual and the context. This interplay includes processes that influence the way individuals experience work engagement. Through considerations of employee perceptions, the role of meaning creation and context, these processes are illuminated. Consequently, the theoretical implications of this study are i) the individual level perspective of work engagement ii) the role of context; and iii) an extension of the JD-R model to emphasize the importance of individual level perception and the dual role of job characteristics
