Sjeng P. Email and Phone Number
A webdeveloper since 1993 - Geocities was where it all started for me - I'd take over the family computer for days at a time, just so I could add a MIDI song to my project. I was just twelve in a time when the internet wasn't all that big or entertaining. So I built a website for the 'girl group' I 'managed' because I was a boy and couldn't join. None of us sang and it all amounted to one afternoon of taking pictures in the garden. The website was amazing, but none of my friends even knew what the internet was yet. I showed it to them once, on a pay per minute internet console at the mall. This theme of wanting to be so far ahead of the curve that it doesn't matter to many people (yet) still plays an important part in my life. I always wanted to be Dexter from Dexter's lab so bad that it actually upset me. I never managed in the end, but I learned that being Deedee can be just as fun and rewarding. At 14 Flash happened, I made tons of prototypes that never saw the light of day. At 16 I had to choose a college on the other side of the planet from where I lived. I wanted to go to film school but I was too young. Thankfully, that year saw the introduction of the brand new, completely unproven 'Multimedia Design and Technology' course. I pretty much skipped the entire first year because nobody knew what they were doing yet. At 19 I took on an 'internship' which set me back an entire year because I had to learn PHP from scratch, by myself. A year later I managed to get an internship at Hollands biggest Public TV station, TROS. My.. unique set of skills worked out perfectly and I got to head up or join projects that weren't intended for interns. Luckily I met the man of my dreams right after that. We shared the same sense of purpose and was just as eager to be unique as I was. Lucky for me, his passion happened to be graphic design. 3 months later I made him quit his job and promised I'd do the same. Rich in ambition but poor financially, we kept at it for years and he challenged me to create anything he could think of. Eventually I built a framework named PowerMuffin to facilitate his desires and to enable him do most of the front-end work. Together we've done hundreds of projects, from simple templates to an entire intranet, built from scratch. Now at 36, I tend to breeze through most assignments, but given the chance I'll spice things up with a bit of creative coding. A lot of it isn't visible or even appreciated, but it's important to me; it just might be the thing that inspires me to try something completely new again.. just like on Geocities.
