About George Smith

As a data analyst, I help luxury hospitality, travel and tourism businesses to build semantic data models with Power BI, then report and manage data to drive revenue growth with actionable insights. I also create a Service Delivery Plan to align the desired business outcomes with revenue growth and reinvest those savings into a full digital marketing campaign. In doing so I often unlock creativity and create intellectual property such as CRM, processes, algorithms, digital assets and new revenue streams that transform a business’s technology function from a cost centre or liability, into a strategic asset. I have developed a unique framework called the Strategic Digital Operating System to create a standardised approach to this methodology. It’s created significant success for my clients such as Travelodge, 67 Pall Mall, Arros QD, Iberica Restaurants, The Oxford Collection, The Woolsery Collective and many more. I’ve also worked for The Daylesford Group and Soho House so have a deep understanding of the sector. With such a unique focus I’m always open to new projects and clients, so feel free to get in touch.

  • Renault Sport Racing
    Trackside Infrastructure Analyst
Renault Sport Racing Jan 2014 - Dec 2014
In supporting the Renault Formula One Team at Grand Prix races around the world, my role as the sole IT person travelling with the race team was varied, challenging, demanding and rewarding and often involved capturing the race team’s highly specific requirements before architecting and delivering solutions to the track. Once delivered, I was responsible for supporting and operating those solutions at each race. Between events when based back at the factory, my primary responsibility was to architect and deliver Microsoft System Centre to the track and to roll out Windows mobile devices, Microsoft Surface devices and deploying Teams. Microsoft were the primary sponsor of the Renault Sports F1 Team, and with a global advertising campaign underway, the acceptance of Cloud Based computing solutions was paramount - which included transitioning the race team to Microsoft Office 365. When at the track, my primary responsibility was to design, build and support the entire IT/IS infrastructure at each race, including the responsibility to ensure all telemetry, data and radio systems for both cars functioned as required whilst replicating data to FOM, the FIA and to the factory in Enstone. Formula 1 is often referred to as the pinnacle of technology and as the sole IT representative for the entire race team I am justifiably proud of my achievement to become one of only eleven people in the world at any one time to simultaneously perform my role.
  • Deluxe Digital Cinema Emea
    Technical Director (Emea)
Deluxe Digital Cinema Emea Oct 2006 - Sep 2007
    London, Gb
Architected the £5million post-production facility of the Deluxe Entertainment subsidiary ‘EFILM London’ and built a global TCP/IP based, highly redundant and highly secure network. Once the facility was built we won our first contract from Warner Bros. to produce the feature film ‘Atonement’. The facility allowed the Director of Photography to perform the world’s first real-time remote post production of a feature film. Once the network was in place I consulted to the film’s Director and production team to build a high speed SAN based on SGI GRIO technology, complimented with Autotask Lustre and Smoke suites, an InfiniBand high performance computing cluster and combined satellite, fibre and Ethernet global distribution network. The facility revolutionised the film production process whilst significantly enhancing the client’s creative ability. Subsequently, ‘Atonement’ went on to win the ‘Best Cinematography’ BAFTA award at our first attempt.+ Won promotion from IT Director at Capital FX Limited (a subsidiary of Deluxe Entertainment) to Technical Director for the EMEA region. + Architected and project managed the first ever European Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI) feature film release for Twentieth Century Fox (Ice Age 2: The Meltdown) by building a global TCP/IP based distribution network and designing the workflow pipeline to ensure a successful day and date global release.+ Immediately and successfully followed the DCI release of Sony’s “Casino Royale” and ensured that Deluxe were awarded the multimillion dollar Digital Cinema distribution rights for Twentieth Century Fox and Sony Columbia Pictures throughout Europe and internationally . + Architected the technical infrastructure and team to win Deluxe Entertainment the position of market leader for Digital Cinema film distribution.

Expanded with Network Appliance and Windows technologies then, built and led a team from two to fifteen people and together we instilled the confidence in Hollywood studios Warner Bros., Sony, Universal and Fox to win multi million pound contracts before going on to deliver 53% of all their worldwide film releases on a day and date release basis without missing a single deadline.+ Enabled the successful expansion of Capital FX Limited during which time the business was acquired from the founding Director’s by Deluxe Entertainment through analysing and identifying why the existing technology infrastructure was unfit for purpose then replacing it with a business continuity data centre, a twenty four hour call centre and international TCP/IP based network that allowed the business to win long sought after contracts from Hollywood studios such as 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros, Sony Columbia, Disney, Paramount and Universal. + Rebuilt the technical infrastructure from the ground up whilst maintaining and expanding a complex and dynamic deadline driven production schedule. + Successfully implemented technologies such as a 1PB SGI tiered storage SAN infrastructure based on IRIX, CXFS and DMF technologies, Network Appliance clustered NAS devices, Brocade and Cisco fibre channel switching, and Microsoft Exchange/SQL/ SharePoint technologies enhancing the business capacity and efficiency thereby dramatically increasing capabilities that provided clients with the confidence to trust Capital FX with the international day and date release of their blockbuster studio productions.
