I work primarily as a consultant and expert witness in cases of abuse and neglect of students in public schools, especially students with special needs. I work for parents and attorneys to assure that the injured child receives all the services to which he is entitled. In the event of abuse or injury, my years of experience and multi-faceted perspective can provide the expertise to assure that the child’s story, current condition, and former potential is communicated in an exemplary manner. I concentrate my work load so that I can focus significant time and effort. I work with many cases, both individual and those with class action status, from behind the scenes consulting with attorneys and civil rights groups and counseling parents and clients. I am also extremely effective as a visible and vocal team member. I work cases from the initial contact with attorneys; I have also been retained in cases that appeared to be at an impasse to have those cases settle for higher than the tort cap in South Carolina. Often, my presence, title, and credentials are enough to press school districts and their insurance companies into significant settlement talks.I also educate my attorneys on the unique aspects of schools including schools' vulnerability and their ability and means of hiding evidence in order to prepare them for depositions and trial. I make suggestions for clients who are suffering from their abuse and follow up to assure those clients feel supported.
