After 27 years as an arts writer with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, I moved to online media August 3, 2009, as a Managing Partner and Senior Editor at Third Coast Daily, a digital magazine. During my tenure, TCD's audience grew from about 11,000 unique visitors per month to about 40,000. We won 10 Milwaukee Press Club Awards, including Best News and Features Web Site. We became adept at leveraging social media to drive readers to the site and developed a side business in social media marketing. During this time, I also co-created, wrote and was on-air co-host for three arts magazine shows for Milwaukee Public Television.Three partners and I sold TCD in September of 2012. I stayed on as senior editor until Sept. 2, 2013, when I left to free-lance and start Tom Strini Writes (striniwrites.blogspot.com), which quickly became the leading arts blog in Milwaukee. I also worked as a content marketing writer and editor at Northwoods Web Solutions, a full-service website design and software development firm. In September 2014, my wife, Lee Ann Garrison, and I relocated to Corvallis, Ore., where Lee Ann was Director of the School of the Arts and Communications at Oregon State University. In 2019, we moved to Columbia, Mo., where Lee Ann is Director of the School of Visual Studies at the University of Missouri.I taught journalism, criticism, music and art courses at Oregon State. In 2015, I created The Corvallis Review website as a platform for student writing and for teaching SEO and social media sharing of stories (over 500 stories published and over 200,000 page views as of 7/8/19). During our time in Oregon, I became the program annotator for the Eugene Symphony Orchestra and developed "The Spanish Guitar, from the Streets to the Concert Stage," a multimedia musical and theatrical event. I wrote the script and served as the on-stage host and narrator for the show, which scored a commercial success at the Majestic Theatre in Corvallis in the spring of 2016.
