Timo Kahles is a senior consultant at the Department of Neurology, Cantonal Hospital Aarau in Switzerland and serves as the co-director of the comprehensive Stroke Center. He received his medical degree from the University of Saarland, where he also accomplished his doctoral thesis. Dr Kahles is an expert in vascular neurology and neurointensive care with a special interest in optimizing acute stroke management and secondary stroke prevention. During his residency at the Department of Neurology, University Hospital Frankfurt, Germany he completed a research fellowship at the Institute of Cardiovascular Physiology at the Goethe University Frankfurt with a focus on oxidative stress and cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury. The results of his studies substantially contributed to the understanding of the role of NADPH oxidases as ROS sources in postischemic blood-brain barrier damage. After receiving his Neurology board certification in 2010 he joined Prof. Dr. C. Iadecola`s Neurobiology lab at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City for a two year research fellowship. In 2012 Dr. Kahles returned to Europe and pursued his career at the Department of Neurology, Cantonal Hospital Aarau, Switzerland focusing on recanalization therapies, stroke biomarker and secondary stroke prevention in particular from cardiac source. Just recently he completed his postdoctoral lecture qualification at the University Basel.
