I am a Fulbright Scholar, and graduate of the CUNY Graduate Center Baccalaureate Program with a B.S. in American Song Studies. In 1996 I began a project as archivist and performer of the body of work of June Christy, a jazz artist who sang from the late 40’s - 60’s. I developed a cabaret act that combined the music and biographical information about her life and times. With grants from the Brooklyn Arts Council, the Puffin Foundation and NY City Councilman Ken Fisher, I refashioned my “act” of jazz and pop standards into “Songs for Seniors,” a participatory music outreach program I performed at nursing homes and senior centers. I translated what I did with seniors to teaching children and worked nine years as an arts educator (singing, music culture and its appreciation) teaching children from nursery school to eighth grade. I also received funding from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Fund to create a music program for children and seniors to sing together. In 1999 I entered the CUNY BA/BS program because I decided to formalize my knowledge and training for my teaching career. I also wanted to explore in a scholarly way a great love, American song and its music.I have juggled wifehood, motherhood, acting, singing and office jobs, restaurant/catering services and even worked several years as a pastry chef/baker at a French bakery. My varied work history has served me well in my writing and research projects. I'm an excellent cook, especially interested in the celebratory foods of diverse cultures: my mother’s Puerto Rican cuisine, the French-Canadian baking of my father’s mother and the Italian/Sicilian foods of my husband’s family. Cooking touches taste and memory, as well as feeding our hunger. It connects us to childhood, to ancestors and to heritage. It is one more aspect of cultural identity that has informed and enriched my work as a performer, educator, writer and scholar.

Stevie's Artisans Urban Folk Art is a curated collection of museum quality hand crafts and wearable art made by graffiti and fine artists. Stevie's Artisans is a continuation and extension of my relationship with several Bronx-based artists that began when I managed the gift shop at The Bronx Museum of the Arts.
Managed vendors, developed product lines, purchased books, publications and artisans’ crafts for the shop. Produced a Monthly Book Signing Series and its promotional materials and coordinated the Museum Artisans’ Fairs. Assisted in marketing of Museum rental space. Supervised two assistants and one intern.
For nine years I was a music and arts educator (singing, music culture and its appreciation) teaching children from nursery school to eighth grade. I created and taught a music program designed to teach across the curriculum to nursery school age students though 8th grade at three Catholic schools in Brooklyn. Also produced and directed the annual.
