As a design engineer for PAR's OakRiver Life Science division, I am deeply involved in my projects from the proposal phase through acceptance testing. I deliver high-fidelity machines to customers with unique and challenging processes, often with tight time constraints due to the nature of the industries we serve. My role includes a high degree of project ownership, as I am typically the sole mechanical engineer working on a given machine. This means that in addition to the technical diligence that is required to create reliable systems, I must also constantly maintain a wider view of the big picture and be proactive in effectively communicating the needs of my customer, my team, and myself to other stakeholders.Some highlights of my previous and ongoing projects in which I have been the mechanical lead include an automated needle handling and transferring machine, a novel lithium battery cell assembly system, an industrial material handling system for wood processing, and tooling design and fixturing for heart stent manufacturing.

Design U is a product design student organization at the University of Minnesota that gives members the opportunity to work with real-world clients and carry out projects in small teams. As Director of their Prototyping Division, I interviewed and selected members, identified clients that fit the skill sets of the membership, coordinated several project teams and worked with clients to define projects that benefited their companies as well as Design U members.

• Developed retrofit ventilation kit for PM201 cold planer to comply with updated OSHA silica dust exposure standards• Used customer data and feedback to design, 3D print, and test a dust filtration kit for pneumatic compactors used in the Australian outback • Utilized and altered large assemblies in Creo and created 40+ new machine components• Collaborated with mechanics and test engineers and worked hands-on with the machines• Worked with small team utilizing Six Sigma methodologies and often sought guidance from professionals in multiple departments
