This was initially a secondment from the Ministry of Justice but is now a full-time position.The initial focus of the role was on developing and undertaking the ‘Digital and Data Investments’ data collection exercise concerning ICT and Digital planned and current investments across government. The 2018 exercise provided, for the first time, a comprehensive cross-agency view of such investments. This work was commissioned by the Minister of Finance and enables better sequencing and prioritisation of investment decisions across government. The exercise was repeated in 2019 and 2020 and is due to be repeated in 2021.More recently, I joined the recently established Business Intelligence team for the branch. I have become involved more broadly with a number of different datasets held by the branch, both financial and non-financial.Investment Data Collection Activities- Worked closely with a select group of agencies to prototype a data collection template for investment data.- Designed the template for the formal data collection exercise, working with subject matter experts and utilising the learnings from the prototyping exercise. After the 2018 exercise I have led significant improvements to the data collection based on the 2018 experience and calling on expert advice.- Conducted quality control on incoming data and worked with agencies to improve the usability of the data.- Designed the means to consolidate the collected investment data to enable easy analysis.Business Intelligence / Visualisation- Analysis of data to identify themes and interventions.- Creation and maintenance of data models linking various datasets together.- Development of dashboards in Excel and Power BI allowing data to be visualised and interrogated.- Development and maintenance of the Information Security Standard Operating Procedures for the branch.

• Led the financial modelling for a project concerned with the consolidation and restructure of the Legal Aid service. This involved modelling the phasing of the proposed changes and the evolution of FTEs and remuneration through time.• Seconded to the Centralisation project (July 2015 – December 2015). This ongoing project concerns centralising administrative processes currently undertaken in the courts. I estimated FTE requirements using timing and activity data as well as working with business analysts and subject matter experts to understand the activities to be centralised. I also contributed to the development of an investment case for the project.• Heavily contributed to the development of an activity based costing of the Ministry as part of the ‘Investing in Justice’ project. The purpose of the work was to estimate the cost of delivering the core outputs of the Ministry. I worked with senior managers and others to understand how different parts of the Ministry contribute to the various outputs. • Developed an Excel based calculator for processing payments to suppliers of Family Justice services. The calculator provides an interface between a third party application and our Financial Management Information system (FMIS). • Led the financial analysis for a major review of Civil Court fees. This involved estimating the direct and indirect costs of various jurisdictions supported by the Ministry and analysing the revenues associated with various court fees. • Led the Ministry’s annual submission to the Benchmarking Administrative and Support Services (BASS) exercise. This is a major Treasury led exercise gathering financial and other metrics on government agency support services. • Derived budget parameters and allocated corporate overheads to outputs, for which I developed new models and methodologies.• Completed many other costing exercises, often involving the analysis of large volumes of transactions. • Asset capitalisations.
