I lead the Student Governance team at Liverpool John Moores Universit,y with responsibility for complaints, appeals, student discipline and students with criminal convictions, fitness to practise and fitness to study.My academic background is in interdisciplinary cultural studies, particularly the study of popular music and popular culture. From 2001 to 2013, I led the University's BA Popular Music Studies programme. In 2003, I co-authored, with Dr Ron Moy, the textbook "Popular Music Genres: An Introduction" (Edinburgh University Press).I am chair and founding trustee of Writing on the Wall, a registered charity and limited company. Formed in 2000, Writing on the Wall is a dynamic, Liverpool-based community organisation that deliver projects and events that celebrate writing in all its forms. Writing on the Wall is part of Arts Council England's National Portfolio of regularly funded organisations.I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a Member of the Association of University Administrators.I have an interest in the murals of Northern Ireland. "The Writing on the Wall: A Visual History of Northern Ireland's Troubles", was published in October 2015 (Bluecoat Press).
