The bank’s strategy is to adopt a vendor service model for infrastructure and platforms, and deliver these services with a highly automated and code driven Openshift based solution. As an IT Service Management architect, I provide the architecture and vision to transform the ITSM toolset to provide configuration, change, incident, event, and capacity management in this new environment. I work with asset and configuration management solutions which play a key role in the governance of applications within the bank. Part of my role is to ensure that our configuration tools can accurately describe the components of an application during the transformation to new container-based hosting platforms. Configuration management will eventually drive automation tools and remove manual intervention.

I am currently a senior engineer in the IT Systems Management engineering group, responsible for delivering global enterprise systems management solutions from helpdesk tools to application monitoring. In 2009, Deutsche Bank began an ambitious project to migrate server and application monitoring from Tivoli to Nimsoft which has become one of the largest and most diverse Nimsoft domains in the world. I was the lead engineer in this pioneering project and the solution now caters for 35k servers and 17k databases globally. This year I am leading a project to install CA IT Asset Management, initially aimed at performing software discovery for software license management. This unique solution will leverage the existing Nimsoft technology to deliver the scanners, control the scans and collect the data.

As a systems management consultant, I assisted Visa in designing and implementing a systems management solution for server and application monitoring using IBM’s ITM 6 product. The system provided monitoring for Europe-wide business critical card authorisation systems and critical components such as MQ Series. The health of these systems was vitally important to the success of the organisation and I worked closely with the operational support teams to deliver suitable systems management tools that were appropriate for that environment.

I provided worldwide support for all core Tivoli products such as Framework, T/EC, ITM, DM, TFST and Configuration Manager. I undertook a substantial amount of project work including the development of a set of DM to ITM5 migration tools and an end user interface for ITM5. I completed a successful migration from DM to ITM, writing custom Resource Models in ITM to support the bank's monitoring requirements.

I assisted with the development, testing and installation of a Tivoli monitoring system for all the Windows NT/2000 and Novell NetWare servers in the company. I also developed Tivoli product solutions for management of the desktop systems and worked closely with a number of support teams to implement the products. The desktop solution included Remote Control and Software Distribution for use by the helpdesk. I created and delivered introductory Tivoli training to a number of members of the server support teams and continued to provide them with help and advice that enabled them to configure Tivoli products to work more effectively.
