Onsite Engineer at ABITEC Corporation (Part of Associated British Foods PLC). Responsibilities included maintaining, monitoring and supporting an Active Directory domain across multiple sites running on Microsoft Server 2003 servers using Microsoft Exchange 2003 as the main email platform. Other responsibilities included supporting a Citrix thin client environment as well as using Microsoft SMS 2003, Software Update Services (SUS) and SurfControl email and web filtering software. Backup and restore functions were also carried out using Veritas Backup Exec software.

Providing 2nd line support for a busy holiday exchange company. Part of a team supporting 400+ users, including multiple European sites and 40 remote users. Administration of Novell Netware, Microsoft NT and Microsoft Exchange Servers. Using Arcserve 6 and Veritas Backup Executive 9 to carry out data backup and restore functions. Packaging of delivered applications using Zenworks and NetWare administrator for a very busy Call Centre environment. Providing support to an Exchange 5.5 and Outlook environment as well as a wide range of HP printers. A key project that I was involved in was a domain migration from a Netware Directory Services domain to a Microsoft Active Directory domain, migrating users and workstations using the Aelita Domain Migration tool.

Part of a team carrying out a server rollout for Royal Mail sorting offices around the UK. The project involved installing racks and ancillaries into custom built Comms rooms and setting up hardware and MS NT4 software configuration on IBM X series and Netfinity servers as well as loading pre configured software onto RS6000 servers, Cisco routers and switches were also installed and limited configuration carried out. All equipment was installed and all necessary hardware and cabling checked. Post install communication with the customer was carried out to ensure that any problems that occurred post installation, were dealt with accordingly and production of all documents relevant to a build or installation updated. Key responsibilities included building and configuring hardware, loading and configuring software using pre-defined scripts, designing and building racks and installing cabling. Performing on site installations and helping to maintain the SLA while maintaining a safe working environment while on customer sites.

Carrying out electrical inspection and repairs to a wide range of vehicles and electronic equipment. Responsible for planned electrical safety inspections, maintaining registers for portable and non-portable electrical appliances and carrying out health and safety at work (HSAW) risk assessments.On deciding to leave the army my resettlement entitlements enabled me to attend both a Microsoft MCSE (Windows 2000) and a CompTIA A+ course.
