Reporting to the University Librarian, I am part of the Library senior leadership team. I am responsible for the planning and management of the collections budget (£6.5 million plus per annum).

As a key member of the Library Leadership Team in identifying and formulating annual strategies to ensure services meet and exceed users’ expectations, I have proved instrumental in the success of a number of innovative initiatives. Examples include:The inclusion of a new digital strand in the next iteration of the strategic plan, assisting in the delivery of College plans for the Teaching Excellence Framework, Research Excellence Framework and NHS partnerships. The scoping and successful delivery of the operational plan to improve the Information Resources Team activities, resulting in increased operational efficiency and an improved user experience; evidenced in satisfaction rates of over 90% regarding new products and services such as scan-on-demand, video streaming services and suggest-a-book.The scoping and management of new products and services introduction, including the Ex Libris 'Leganto' reading lists software, online resources for alumni and the 'Open Access Button'; resulting in a 100% increase in the number of reading lists being processed and a 43% increase in alumni library registrations.The development and refinement of a new Collections Development Strategy, including engagement with low and no usage audiences. Increased online access by 10% year-on-year over three years.With full accountability for the strategic and operational planning and management of information resources, I held responsibility for incorporating acquisitions, metadata, subscriptions special collections, e-access and document delivery content services. I also led in the delivery of business and change management, finance, contract negotiation, performance management, consortia engagement and project management. I provided motivational leadership of a team of 16, mentoring, monitoring, setting objectives and delivering professional development, and manage a significant annual operating budget (+£6m) within legislative and corporate time and compliance limitations.

In this capacity, I provided consultancy and reporting services for a range of scholarly communication and digital capability research projects for clients including the Wellcome Trust, the Open Knowledge Foundation and the BBC. Additionally, I provided short-term consultancy acting as Stakeholder and Communications Manager for the BBC in support of the Research and Education Space (RES) project, delivering service.

My role as Project Director involved the direction and coordination of the Strategic Content Alliance in collaboration with Jisc partners, including: Arts Council England, the British Library, the BBC, Heritage Lottery Fund and the Wellcome Library. Essential aspects of the role included: the scoping and commission of empirical research reports, the creation of online tools and the design of a bespoke skills development programme for librarians and curators. I led policy and strategy response development on behalf of Jisc and Alliance partners to the UK government, EU and other international bodies, providing expert advice to Members of the Board; and held full accountability for the end-to-end delivery of all Alliance activity strategy, partnership management, policy development and operational implementation.A key contributor to the enactment of the Hargreaves recommendations on copyright reform, I conducted national and international policy engagements, presenting evidence to the EU Commission during hearings in Brussels and UK government ministerial briefings. Equally, and as UK funding agency participation lead in the ‘Digging into Data’ trans-Atlantic collaboration, I helped facilitate next generation researcher skills, technologies and new audience engagement.Maintaining relationships through the conduct of regular and productive activities and briefings with key senior executive at partnership organisations, I successfully developed new UK and overseas collaborations and attracted new inward investment. I also developed the communication strategy and measurable implementation plan, supporting the dissemination and impact of all Alliance outputs and engaging in the compliant and accurate financial management, setting budgets for new programmes of work and making key investment decisions.In addition, I regularly commissioned goods and services procurement; provided quality and risk assurance leadership and incorporated validated functionality requirements.

In my role as Programme Manager I provided leadership and management for the successful delivery of an international e-content programme with a high value total investment. This included the subsequent deployment of several million new on-line e-resources such as medical journals, audio / video, text and images, and the associated teaching and learning resources which were based on the Jisc Information Environment standards and made available free of charge to UK further and higher education institutions.
