I am a Strategic Advisor for Brown Advisory, an global independent investment management firm, where I serve as Co-Head of Strategic Advisory and Head of the Carolinas Office. In this role, I advise our clients on a wide-array of issues, including tax planning, estate planning, asset structuring and protection, generational transfers, and charitable giving.I have been a lawyer since 1985, and was previously the leader of the Trusts and Estates Practice Group at Ward and Smith, P.A., where I focused my practice on tax planning, estate planning, estate administration, asset protection planning, philanthropic planning and business succession planning. I am certified by the North Carolina State Bar as a Board Certified Specialist in Estate Planning and Probate Law, and I am a Fellow in the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel.I have been a proud member of the North Carolina Bar Association for my entire career, and have served that organization in many capacities, including as a member of the Board of Governors, as Chair of its Young Lawyers Division, as Chair of its Estate Planning and Probate Law Section, and currently as a member of the Board of the North Carolina Bar Foundation. Another important part of my philanthropic mission is the North Carolina Community Foundation, where I've served as Chair of the Board and a member of the Strategic Planning and Finance Committees. I am an active alumnus of Davidson College, and previously served as President of the College's Alumni Association, which role also allowed me to serve as an ex officio member of the College's Board of Trustees.
