• Project managed and led the engineering development of the Aston Martin Vantage Safety Car and DBX Medical Car used in Formula One from the 2021 season, delivering 5 cars in 7 months and within budget.• Worked with F1, the FIA and their associated technical partners to define both vehicles’ requirements and then presented the proposed product definition and budget to Aston Martin senior management for approval.• Lead a small team to design and develop both vehicles. Two development vehicles were produced within 3 months from the start of the project, with development testing completed by the end of the year.• 3 Safety cars and 2 medical cars were then produced and shaken down at the start of 2021 ready for F1 March preseason testing in Bahrain.• At each F1 event I ensured the cars were set up as required and lead further development of them as we gained better understanding of the vehicles in their application.• Managed the logistics and customs requirements to ship the vehicles, tools and spares to each event as well as planned and arranged the support team’s travel to each race.

• Support/conduct whole vehicle, attribute and system benchmarking and help to generate appropriate targets for the product.• Assist with the development and maintenance of the Vehicle Technical Specification – a document which I created as a method of recording and managing the vehicle line attribute and architecture targets. Its successful implementation has been adopted and applied to other vehicle programmes.• Manage and run Vehicle Integration Team meetings in order to support and track delivery of the vehicle attributes.• Work with the relevant departments to plan and execute prototype builds including number of vehicles, specification and prototype commodity plans to ensure builds are fit for purpose.• Attend and present in Technical Forums, programme PSTs, and other programme reviews.

• My main role was as the lead design engineer for a hydraulically actuated rear wing system on the McLaren P1 GTR, which is a track only performance vehicle, this is a development of the previous system I worked on (see Graduate Engineer Experience). I optimised the system for a track car application including mass reduction, thermal management optimisation of the hydraulic pump due to increased duty cycles compared to the road vehicle and ensuring the system can be changed quickly in the event of an on-track incident requiring a quick wing replacement.• As part of another project I was responsible for the design of the deployable table subsystem within a centre console module on the 2015 model year Range Rover Autobiography Black Edition. I Identified issues within the system that could present risks during production, implemented and validated design solutions to eliminate or minimise the associated risks. Worked to simplify production parts to reduce system costs and to increase the profit gained from each console sold.

• Working within a small team, my first project at Prodrive was to design a hydraulically actuated rear wing system with multiple deployment heights and active pitch control as well as front electronically actuated diffuser flaps for the McLaren P1. My main area of responsibility was the design of the hydraulic lift and pitch actuators working from concept, to prototype testing through to production.• I proposed a project for the graduate engineers within the company to take part in as a learning exercise to gain experience across areas such as project management, budget planning and design management. These are areas the graduates would only have brief encounters with in their first year of the company. This project was approved by senior management and I went on to lead the project with a team of 9, where we developed a single seater electric vehicle that competed in the Greenpower corporate challenge achieving a second place finish out of 13 competitors.

While working within Prodrive Automotive Technology I took a secondment to work part time for Aston Martin Racing as a data engineer for the first 3 races of the World Endurance Championship, up to and including the 24 Hours of Le Mans. My responsibilities included:• Reviewing vehicle telemetry to assist the race engineer with race strategy formulations, • Monitoring competitor performance to find opportunistic strategy calls, • Created telemetry overlays to assist the drivers to perform at their best• Set up the data stations and pit garage network.

Gkn Driveline Birmingham

I worked in the Global Engineering Department as part of the Jaguar Land Rover Account, my responsibilities included:• Designed 3 variants of driveshaft used on Land Rover vehicles, calculating the ultimate shear strength and fatigue life of shaft designs at different loads, designing a fuse point to ensure the failure mode is consistently in the same area.• Virtual team working with engineers in France and Germany.• Liaised with and presented to customers to ensure my designs met their requirements.• I created spreadsheets which helped optimise the weight impact of the shafts while still achieving the strength targets.• Performed root cause investigation.• Proposed and implemented a change to the driveshaft which benefited the assembly process of the driveshaft assembly.
