About Stuart Endo-Streeter
I am a highly experienced Research Instructor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My skills include protein production and purification, protein crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, molecular modeling and protein dynamics, tissue culture, lentivirus and addenovirus, development and deployment of high-throughput molecular screening assays, as well as fundamental lab techniques. I am also responsible for our infrastructure and inventory, databases and backups, procurement, configuring and maintaining our equipment, and training our personnel on said equipment. From packing sizing columns on FPLCs and tearing down high-pressure cell crackers, to performing "data archeology" to rescue what was though to be irretrievably lost data and rebuilding ancient computers that run specialized equipment, to dealing with the procurement and regulation bureaucracy, I have experience in most of the things that can happen in a lab.

Research Instructor
CurrentI am continuing my work using cryoEM to investigate PLCg1 signaling, and investigating oncogenic mutations in PLCb4. In parallel I am investigating the structure of PLCg1 bound to various inhibitors using protein x-ray crystallography and exploring the mechanisms of inhibition. My work continues to include all my previous responsibilities in the lab, as.
Research Associate
I used cryoEM to investigate the mechanism of PLCg1 activation and regulation. I also began investigating the role of PLCb4 as a driver of multiple cancers, through metabolic and enzymatic assays. My responsibilities included lab operations and infrastructure, including configuration, training, and maintenance of our FPLCs, Emulsiflex, tissue culture room.
Seminar Coordinator
I founded and ran the Structural Biology Discussion Group (SBDG) seminar series which ran monthly from 2017 through 2020, when it was absorbed into the Macromolecular X-ray crystallography core. I founded the SBDG to address the need at UNC for a protein crystallography seminar series - the NMR and Mass Spectrometry cores have similar series, but at the.
Interim Director, Macromolecular X-Ray Crystallography Core
In January of 2018 I was asked to temporarily take responsibility for the UNC Macromolecular X-Ray Crystallography Core after the departure of the previous director. What was expected to be a two-three month role that maintained the minimum services of the core turned into a full six months coordinating and operating the core during the prolonged candidate.
Postdoctoral Researcher
I led our high-throughput screening project to identify inhibitors of oncogenic Galpha protein Q in a collaboration with AstraZeneca and the UNC Center for Integrative Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery. With the CICBDD, I translated the assay to the HTS stage and in collaboration with AstraZeneca through the Open Innovations program, screened over 2.
Martial Arts Owner And Instructor
I was the primary owner and head instructor of Tactical Kung-Fu and Mixed Martial arts from 2015-2017. I was responsible for our curriculum, leading classes, recruitment, and management, working jointly with my business partner and fellow instructor, who now leads the school. I retired from the business when I was promoted at UNC and moved.
Postdoctoral Researcher
As the structural biologist of a computer science lab, I brought a new background and perspective to the protein design work being carried out, and the ability to test those designs in real life. I extensively used yeast and bacterial expression systems during the design and testing of an inositol phosphate sensor system. I was also significantly involved.
Laboratory Technician
While a technician at Brandies University in the Department of Biochemistry I was responsible for my own structural biology project, training our undergrads in fundamental biological, biochemistry, and genetic techniques, and managed the lab infrastructure. My responsibilities included keeping our old FPLC running, coaxing along the ancient table-top.
