For many years I did contract work, mostly in financial services, in the UK and the Netherlands via Alternative Choices. Initially this was largely related to community development finance institutions. Later on, my contract work was nearly all for risk management firms, typically involving Dutch mortgages. I also carried out translation work, including translating two philosophy books from Dutch to English.

I have specialist knowledge of Dutch mortgages and other finance products, based on practical underwriting experience plus translation and consultancy work. My expertise includes knowledge of the systems used by the main Dutch mortgage servicers, market trends and the underlying legal and regulatory background.

Since 2009 I have assessed CDFIs under the Change Matters performance framework, currently in its second incarnation, CM2. I do this via Alternative Choices (and previously via Catalyst Collective) under contract to the CDFA.

I offer help and advice to community development finance institutions based on my years of experience in the sector. I also occasionally carry out Dutch to English translations, usually linked in some way to community or non-profit finance.

BCRS is a Community Development Financial Institution covering the Black Country and surrounding areas of the West Midlands. My job consisted of 2 parts: loans and financial management. I appraised applications for new loans and monitored existing loans. I monitored the finances of BCRS and prepared management information covering its financial performance.
