    Researched the generation of quantum entanglement over long distances:The aim of my research was to create new quantum algorithms that could be used to generate long distance quantum entanglement. This entanglement could be used to perform perfectly secure quantum cryptography or used in distributed quantum computing.This involved researching current quantum processing algorithms and then deriving new protocols that can be applied to quantum entangled networks. These procedures make use of the network structure to enhance the effectiveness of entanglement distribution. By simulating these procedures using Monte Carlo techniques I was able to demonstrate that entanglement can be generated over an arbitrary distance without increasing local resources. I also simulated the interaction of a carbon nanotube with a optical nanofibre and proposed the use of such a device as a photodetector.
