Scientist investigating the role of Src kinases in alcohol addiction. Developed Adenoviral, Lentviral and AAV viral vector platforms for delivery of shRNA and mutant protein coding sequences in vivo. Lead scientist for glutamate transporter dysfunction in ALS. Utilized the G93A ALS mouse model, organotypic and primary cultures along with a multitude of molecular biology techniques, determined that caspase cleavage of the transporter was the root cause. Uncovered aberrant fragment processing of the caspase cleaved C-terminal fragment by SUMO and novel electrophysiological properties for the N-terminal fragment that remains in the membrane, finding that both events contribute to pathology in a mouse model of the disease.
