I drove the development of new products and processes for a variety of clients, from inventors, though SME’s to multi-national corporations. I led teams of technologists across all required skill sets, from mechanical, software and electronic engineers to scientists and industrial designers. Also responsible for the Apprenticeship scheme at PA’s Cambridge Technology Centre, developing apprentices into experienced degree level engineers and consultants. Key projects include; • Development of a beverage machine – Launching a differentiated beverage machine to the market• Developing a fully automated production process to deliver 800 units per minute - allowing the client to launch a new to world product trial from a pilot line.• Medical device development - Validating and verifying medical device conformed to systems specification for a point of care device.

Research into creating novel biosensors for point of care measurements at patient bedside in collaboration with Sphere Medical, Cambridge, UK.Creation of novel electrochemical sensors with polymer interfaces for detection of antibiotics in human blood. Design and synthesis of Molecular Imprinted Polymers (MIPs) using computer aided molecular modelling. Characterisation of polymers, such as BET pore size analysis, DSC, NMR.Integration of MIP technology with electrochemical sensors, using wet chemistry such as thiolation and silanisation of sensors surfaces.Use of electrochemistry for detection of targets, amperometric, voltametric and pH detection using ISFET technology. Attended business skills development course, run in conjunction with Cranfield School of Management (No 1 MBA in UK- The Economist -2010).

Design, synthesis and characterisation of ion exchange polymers, membrane electrode assemblies (MEA) and fuel cells (both hydrogen and methanol). Specific expertise in solid polymer anion exchange materials.Responsible for creation, upkeep and all in house training of internal polymer characterisation suite.Electochemical testing of fuel cells, and catalysts. Author of 17 record of invention (ROI's).Mentor for 3 industrial placement students (including industrial project proposals).

PhD. Design, synthesis and characterisation of solid polymer electrolytes for the direct methanol fuel cell. With emphasis on anion exchange materials. Synthesis of novel anionic polymer with high conductivity and low methanol permeability. Novel design, engineering and testing of single mode microwave to improve polymerisation time from 48 hours to under 5 minutes. Use of gamma radiation for polymerisation.PhD submitted and passed within 3 years.

Analytical testing of over the counter pharmaceuticals such as Lemsip, and Gaviscon to MCA guidelines. Using analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC-MS, UV-VIS, FT-IR, AAS.
