At UWS: taught Qualitative Research Methodology, Social Ecology Research, Transformative Learning, Leadership & Change, & Sustainability, Leadership & Change (retired 2009).PhD: one of first whole ecosystem studies on community/energy relationships (1969); earliest by an individual (awards: Best PhD Thesis & Best PhD Student). Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal for community work (1977).1972, report for New Brunswick Government (Canada), Energy & Agriculture – detailed resource, environment & climate issues now being recognized. Since produced similar reports; was advisor to several ministers.Before 1996, at McGill University (Montreal), was responsible for zoology degree. 1974 established Ecological Agriculture Projects, Canada’s leading resource centre for sustainable agriculture (www.eap.mcgill.ca). Published >350 papers & reports. Latest books: Ecological Pioneers: A Social History of Australian Ecological Thought & Action (with Dr Martin Mulligan; Cambridge UP, 2001); Learning for Sustainable Living: Psychology of Ecological Transformation (with Dr Werner Sattmann-Frese; Lulu, 2008); Social Ecology: Applying Ecological Understanding to our Lives & our Planet (with Dr David Wright and Dr Catherine Camden-Pratt; Hawthorn, 2011). Recent book chapters: Social ecology (2011); Four key features of Permaculture, & an opportunity for the future (2011); Enabling redesign for deep industrial ecology & personal values transformation (2006); Social ecology as a framework for understanding & working with social capital & sustainability within rural communities (2005); Learning Ecology: A New Approach to Learning & Transforming Ecological Consciousness(2004); Autonomy, mutualistic relationships, sense of place, & conscious caring (2003).Completed agricultural/development projects in W Indies, French W Africa, Indonesia, Philippines, China, Seychelles (to make coralline island completely self sufficient in food & energy), UK, Canada, New Zealand, & Australia.Specialties: electro-plating (early career), ecology (PhD: one of first whole-ecosystem studies), soil biology, entomology and pest control (past president of Canadian Pest Management Society), agriculture (past board member of Agricultural Institute of Canada), organic farming and gardening (founding co-editor of Journal of Organic Systems), psychotherapy, education, policy development, international development, enabling transformative change….
