Chartered Landscape Architect
CurrentStuart Holmes is a Chartered Landscape Architect who joined LDA Design in April 2014. Stuart is passionate about context driven design informed by extensive background research and strong creative process. Three of Stuart’s projectsCranmer Road Stuart is involved in the design development of an ongoing project aiming to create a focused graduate campus for King’s College in west Cambridge. The landscape design looks to nurture and accommodate social interaction with edible structure planting enclosing large outdoor common rooms for group interaction and smaller spaces for more private discussion and outdoor study. The sustainable design works with existing trees and deals with water run-off on site whilst tying into the surrounding conservation area. Boultham ParkStuart is involved in The HLF funded project to revitalise the park. The park was the grounds of Boultham Hall, demolished in 1959. Central to the concept is the idea of using the footprint of the hall as a central element that allows the original design features to work as they were intended. This approach makes best use of the parks features, enabling a cost effective restoration.Horley Riverside Green ChainStuart developed the design for a 60 acre park which will form part of a green wheel circling Horley. The design draws upon traditional man influenced rural landscapes – our countryside heritage. It incorporates functional and productive features like willow pollards, an orchard, hazel coppices, shaws, hay meadows and boundary hedgerows. The design uses these elements in a composition that responds to the site’s history and increases the recreational value of the park by using them to create enclosure where desired, close vistas and frame long distance views. The proposals draw upon the experience of the local authority's greenspace team with the aim of creating a valuable public resource that is integrated into its surroundings, cost effective to maintain and ecologically beneficial.
