About Stuart Lang

I am an experienced development executive with broad and deep experience in most aspects of higher education advancement and a proven track record in successfully creating fundable concepts and plans. Through direct solicitation and working through staff and volunteers I have raised more than $175 million. I have obtained significant funding from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government sources including direct congressional and legislative appropriations for endowments, buildings, and programs. I have helped organizations and their leaders to decide on new directions, created a course of action and then proceeded to make it happen. As a development executive, I am focused on the bottom line, but what makes me unique is that I am fascinated by what the money can do. I have served as a member of a team which initiated fundraising for a healthy living institute at the College of Saint Benedict. This grew out of a dream of creating courses, research, and advocacy for promoting healthy living, especially through wise nutritional choices. Two of my noteworthy achievements have been raising $82.7M for the “Our Place in the World” campaign at St. Ben’s and the creation of the F.K. Bemis International Center at St. Norbert College. The Bemis Center resulted in the initiation of a number of revenue centers including an ESL Institute, language services, international trade assistance, professional continuing education, and many global collaborations. I see leadership as service to my staff and the organization. I work hard to provide resources and break down barriers so everyone can achieve success. My approach is collaborative. I stress that everyone’s work is essential for an organization to be successful. I have brought many voices together to establish global projects, programs to assist minority and disadvantaged students, and new initiatives in professional, scientific, and technical fields.Specialties: Fund raising Planning and managing capital campaignsExecutive ManagementFacilitating program planningInternational education and trainingFoundation and government grants
