I founded SonALAsense as the capstone of a career spanning more than four decades in drug development, science and medicine. As its founder and Chief Scientific Officer, I see great potential in the development of ALA sonodynamic therapy (SDT) as a first-in-class, non-invasive drug-device combination for the treatment of recurrent glioblastoma multiforme (rGBM) diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) and other deadly cancers. SDT utilizes MRI-guided focused ultrasound (the device) in combination with aminolevulinic acid (a drug) to selectively target and kill tumor cells.Throughout my career, I have pioneered photodynamic therapy systems and have brought multiple drug-device combination products through FDA in both oncology and dermatology. My background as a PhD scientist, a physician trained in oncology, and an experienced pharmaceutical executive, enable me to understand many complex aspects of developing drug-device combinations in cancer and successfully commercializing them. Prior to founding SonALAsense, I was founding Vice President of Scientific Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at DUSA Pharmaceuticals, Director of Hematology/Oncology at Daichi, and worked on anti-neoplastic drugs as a group director at American Cyanamid (Medical Research Division) (now Pfizer).
