With 40 years experience in Agriculture I have come to the realisation that the production of food and fibre must change. Wealth creation is a result of ecosystem services that flow from natural capital. Maximising return on investment (ROI) per hectare over time has led to ecosystem degradation in exchange for financial capital. This has been happening for more than 10000 years and we are at a critical moment in time. We need to embrace and support natural systems that not only allow for food, fibre production and shelter, but create new soil and regenerate the ecosystems and natural cycles that built life on earth from molten rock. By recognising the production of carbon via photosynthesis and the biodiversity it encourages is the only true currency, we can transition to wealth creation from regenerating natural capital and the increasing efficiencies this will bring.
