I set up a Telecottage, providing computer facilities for individuals and small businesses in the Caversham area. On the same premises, my wife set up a Gift Shop and craft centre.

Started work as a Programmer in the Data Process Service in the Main Network Planning Section. Eventually became Senior Programmer/Team Leader and worked in the Programme Support Office, assisting Project Managers across the IS Department and highlighting issues to senior management before a minor problem became a disaster. Ended in a Technical Support role for a Customer Oriented project section.

This was a three month placement by an employment agency while I was applying for a job with BT (the Post Office as was). I was painting gas cylinders in the appropriate colours for their ultimate use. It was not exactly intellectually stretching, but I reinforced my chemistry knowledge by reading the various posters around the place.

This was a Saturday/Holiday job I had while studying for my A-Levels and while at University. Readings for Records was a music shop selling singles, LPs, cassette tapes, sheet music and instruments. CDs hadn't been invented yet!! Due to my choral singing and more classical education, I usually worked in the Classical Music and Instruments Section, but was also familiar with contemporary popular culture.
