My career in architecture began at The Morrison Partnership in 2007 prior to leaving school, before I enrolled on my 'Bachelor of Architecture' undergraduate degree at Edinburgh College of Art. I worked in architecture practice during the academic summers of 2009 and 2010 then returning on a more permanent basis for my Part 1 placement in 2011. I was the first year to study the ‘Edinburgh School of Architecture & Landscape Architecture’ course (ESALA) at The University of Edinburgh, where I completed my Master of Architecture Degree. After university I worked at The Morrison Partnership, where I gained a wide range of valuable experience across all RIBA Work Stages with different clients, projects and varying scales of development. I qualified as an ARB registered architect in 2018 and moved to Staran Architects in January 2019 as a ‘Project Architect’, then latterly as a 'Project & Construction Manager' for certain projects. In 2023 I moved to Helen Lucas Architects as a Senior Architect. Over my 10 + years working in architecture and construction I have gained experience in:- All architectural design stages (Survey, Briefing, Feasibility, Statutory Approvals, Technical)- Identifying and involving the necessary consultants to build a robust Design Team. - Projects which are Listed Buildings and/or in Conservation Areas.- Tendering, Contracts and Contract Administration under JCT SBCC Building Contracts.- Principal Designer and Principal Contractor Duties (under Staran Projects)- On-site Construction Support, visiting sites and responding to issues.- Installing, altering, and upgrading Utility services.- Project Management duties (Costings, build programmes, co-ordinate trades, update clients, etc)My career has given me a robust understanding of all aspects of construction, including the Statutory Approval process (particularly in Edinburgh), assembling and working with a range of Design Teams necessary for any given project, and working closely with clients, stakeholders and trades to realise development.
