Stuart is currently the technical lead for highways electrical design at Jacobs. His primary skill set is in exterior lighting with a focus on reducing impact on; bio-diversity, conservation, carbon emissions through promoting emerging technology, innovation and best practice. Prior to being employed by Jacobs, Stuart worked in manufacturing at Signify / Phillips. Most recently Stuart appeared as an expert witness for the house of lords science and technology committee inquiry into the effects of artificial light on human health. He has co-authored the 2023 update of the ILP & Bat Conservation Trust document; Bats and artificial lighting in the UK. The document educates best practice to reduce the impact of exterior lighting on protected species and their eco-systems. In 2019 he delivered the UK’s first 'reduced impact', street lighting scheme in Worcestershire that made international headlines. The project won the Environmental Sustainability Project of the Year 2019 award from the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE).He has over 13 years of experience in the lighting industry, receiving his ILP Lighting Diploma in 2011 and certified carbon literate in 2021.
