Sequel’s Rulebook Author is used to create and modify web-based insurance products for the specialty insurance market. My role is to create instruction manuals and training courses for the software, and to conduct courses both remotely and at the office. The online training courses are comprised of videos, interactive questions, tests, examples and exercises and are created using Articulate Rise 360. All training and reference material is available on our training website. I am also responsible for the training and mentoring of interns, plus writing and editing knowledge base articles.

My main responsibilities at Mott MacDonald were to write, edit and proofread Processes, Procedures and Work Instructions. Each document type required accompanying training videos which I created using Adobe Captivate and Adobe Premier Pro. I was also responsible for writing and editing knowledge base articles.

FLOvate’s LEAP system allows people with no programming experience to create and modify their own applications. During my 7 years with the company I created the instruction manuals for the software and a training course that I conducted at the office, onsite or remotely. The online course was comprised of worked exercises, videos and tests and was created using LearnUpon. Staff training was also a requirement along with the dissemination of technical information to the sales and marketing teams. Other responsibilities included the creation of sales and marketing videos, client visits, creating and conducting bespoke courses, evaluating new software releases and helping with QA.

During my 4 years with the company I was responsible for writing and conducting training courses for multinational companies including Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Airbus, Honeywell, Philip Morris International, Carlsberg and Carillion. Training courses were primarily conducted in the UK but I also trained clients in France, Germany, Norway and Switzerland. Other responsibilities included writing installation instructions, company procedures and knowledge base articles (for our website) plus proofreading and facilitating with technical support and client installations.

During this period I ran my own software business selling a Stock Control and Production Management system that I designed and wrote for small manufacturing companies. StockWin allowed clients to create a database of stock and parts lists. A mix of products could be selected for production and orders automatically generated for items required. The system tracked the outstanding orders, allowed a ‘Goods In’ facility and showed all work in progress. I also wrote and maintained the instruction manual for the software along with the help files, web page and marketing material. Among my 105 clients were Balfour Beatty, the Red Cross and the Police.

Bensasson & Chalmers have developed two database applications used primarily by local authorities for contractor vetting and selection. During this time my main responsibility was to implement new features using Delphi and Microsoft SQL v6.5 / Sybase SQL Anywhere. This also included writing report generators using QuickReporter, Report Printer Pro and Seagate Info and partaking in the design, development and testing of new software. I also provided technical support to users. Authorities using Bensasson & Chalmers software included Westminster City Council, Hackney Borough Council and Enfield Borough Council.

My position within this company was that of a software support engineer providing technical support to over eighty thousand users world-wide on a full range of electronics CAD and digital/analogue simulation software. I also provided support for a DOS based stock control system (developed originally for the electronics industry). Other responsibilities included the testing of all new packages and their demonstration at national exhibitions. Companies using Number One System software included Motorola, Philips and Logitech.

In my first role I was responsible for the production, testing, calibration and design of electronic test equipment (instrumentation) used in the hydraulics industry. Instrumentation included digital flow, pressure and temperature meters, differential pressure meters, flow cartridges, handheld and bench instruments, tachos, microprocessor and PLC based control equipment, amps, inclinometers and signal generator-based systems. I carried out work for companies such as the BBC, Anglian Water, AEW and Dynamic Suspensions.
