Originally from a business development and marketing background, the last 15 years have been a journey into the world of competitive tendering. My first foray into this environment was on the ‘buying’ side where I encountered the procedural elements of public procurement and OJEU. Since then I have moved to the ‘other side’ of the transaction and work increasingly on a vast array of bids and pitches, and the systems and processes that support this vital function.I have worked on some exciting projects over the years, including a £multi-million bid for an outsourcing contract under the competitive dialogue procedure and the implementation of two IT systems to capture and measure our sales pipeline.The areas where I have worked with clients have included:• Effective pipeline management and pitch reporting• Pitch presentations• Qualifying pitches - the Go/No Go decision.• Drafting pitch manuals and tools across the pitch process.• Pitch governance• Creating and structuring bid libraries• Profitability and pricing in pitches • Demystifying public procurement proceduresI have worked across a number of sectors including professional services, public sector, marketing services, engineering consultancy, rail, outsourcing and facilities managementWhat I enjoy about my role is that it is very tangible. I am working day-to-day on projects that can bring a quantifiable benefit into the business I work for.
