Stuart Sender is an award-winning writer, producer, director, and showrunner of television series and media campaigns. His work has been nominated for two Academy Awards (PRISONER OF PARADISE and THE GARDEN). He's won multiple Emmy Awards and a Polk Award for excellence in Journalism. Much of Stuart’s work lives at the intersection of entertainment, politics and popular culture with a special focus on the crucial issue of global climate change. He teaches a graduate seminar in Science, Environment & Technology journalism at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at USC. He recently taught the inaugural Climate News Training Initiative for USC's Center for Climate Journalism and Communication to a group of professional journalists from across the country.Stuart was a producer for the Showtime climate series YEARS OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY - winner of an Emmy for best non-fiction series, producing segments featuring Matt Damon. Stuart also wrote, produced and directed HARMONY, a primetime special for NBC/Universal. HARMONY, a collaboration with Prince (now King) Charles, focuses on solutions to global climate change. Called "breathtaking and beautifully filmed" by the New York Times, HARMONY premiered at the Kennedy Center, introduced by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.Stuart recently produced two series for Netflix. MELTDOWN, THREE MILE ISLAND, an Emmy nominated series investigates the worst nuclear accident in U.S. history. Prior to that he was Co-Executive Producer of REMASTERED, the Emmy-winning Netflix music series, which was also nominated for an NAACP image award.Stuart's worked around the globe. He was senior producer of the PBS newsmagazine SOUTH AFRICA NOW, which won an Emmy and a Polk Award for excellence in journalism. A career (and life) highlight is producing the first exclusive interview with Nelson Mandela following his release from prison. Stuart's work in dramatic films includes writing the story for THE VOW starring Channing Tatum & Rachel McAdams; and the environmental satire, PICTURES AT 11, about an eco-terrorist group that takes a Los Angeles television station hostage. Stuart produces social media campaigns with performers like Julia Louis Dreyfus, Will Farrell, Fergie & Stevie Wonder that have reached hundreds of millions of viewers and helped register millions of new voters. Stuart speaks and shows his work at film festivals and venues including the United Nations, Aspen Ideasfest & TEDx in Mumbai. Stuart has a BA in politics from UC Santa Cruz and a Master’s in Journalism from Columbia University.
