Key Responsibilities:I ran the central creative and technical team for the UK&I Saica Pack business, known as the National Development Centre team (NDC), based at the flagship PM11 Paper Mill in Manchester. The NDC team consists of highly skilled professionals who specialise in structural and graphic design, product innovation and technical areas including paper and board technology and packing line automation. My role was to manage and lead the team in the development and delivery of world class packaging solutions for Saica and their customers. Regular collaboration with European colleagues, suppliers and customers was also required.Management of high level, complex projects from idea generation through research, development, testing, analysis and ultimately commercialisation. Key Responsibilities:In addition to my day to day customer responsibilities, running projects and delivering complex packaging solutions, I had a “dotted line” management responsibility for all of the UK&I structural designers. I helped to ensure that team members were correctly equipped and trained, so that Saica Pack could deliver world class packaging solutions to our customers, whilst ensuring that they are fit for manufacture. Monthly web-based design meetings are arranged and hosted in addition to face to face national design meetings and training sessions. I organised and run design workshops, internal and external, bringing together designers from different backgrounds and disciplines to solve complicated packaging problems and briefs. My in depth involvement with our computer based design tools, also led to close working relations with my colleagues from IT and IS, helping to deliver the required levels of support for the design teams and other areas of the business during implementation of company specific business systems software.

Key Responsibilities:To provide industry leading corrugated packaging solutions and technical support for key strategic accounts, to engineer added value into existing accounts and support the national sales force in securing new business. Create new world class packaging solutions and develop existing solutions, utilising all of the latest computerised CAD, drafting and manufacturing tools. Compose and issue complex briefs to third parties and colleagues. Organise and run design workshops, bringing together designers to solve complicated packaging problems and briefs. Keep abreast of and fully understand latest Retailer trends, enabling the company to offer customers the latest packaging solutions that are fit for market needs. Have broad knowledge of a wide range of packaging machinery, enabling recommendations to be made to customers regarding packing line automation. Carry out controlled laboratory and field trials. Produce detailed reports and high impact innovative product presentations for use by myself and others within the company. In addition to this I had some national responsibility to ensure all UK and Ireland designers had the correct design software tools available to them and the relevant skills. This responsibility led to a degree of involvement in implementation and development of business systems, working alongside colleagues from IT and IS.

Reporting directly to the Sales Director, this was a brand new role with no existing customer base to build from. Organise and develop a working platform within targeted business areas. Generate enquiries and win orders. Use design skills as a selling tool when; new and existing customers were identified or approached the business with a packaging requirement.
