Fifth Year MEng Group Project entitled “FEA of pipe-in-pipe systems for deep sea applications”. This includes the finite element analysis of various configurations of deepwater pipe-in-pipe subsea pipelines.

One day a week whilst at University. Employed in the projects team, duties include: Assisting in the completion of Workpacks, Technical Drawings, calculations relevant to offshore HVAC systems and inspecting delivered equipment.

Project included FEA (ANSYS Workbench 14.0) of various Vickers indentation tests on thermal spray coatings of different dimensions and materials, in order to determine the stress profiles of these indentation tests. The results supplemented a wider investigation assessing the quality of thermal spray coatings using Vickers indentation tests. The results are included in a report which will potentially be published in a recognised peer-reviewed journal (Journal of Engineering Fracture Mechanics - http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0013794414002252).

Fourth Year MEng Individual Project entitled “Benchmark of WellCat software against theory for determining the axial forces on a completion string”. This involved using MathCAD to calculate the axial forces using the accepted theory and subsequently comparing these results to those ascertained using WellCat software. This has given me a greater understanding of the design of a well and has developed my interest in the oil and gas industry in general.

As team leader; completed a group project to design, build and test a Land Yacht. The project included design concept inception, CAD modelling (Solidworks) through to manufacture and concluded with successful testing on Aberdeen beach. I was heavily involved in the CAD modelling of the project, as the most proficient team member in this area.
