For the last 18 years I have taught beginning Scots Gaelic study groups for the American Gaelic Society. I originally studied Scots Gaelic with local instructors and also spent one intensive course at the University of the Highlands and Islands on the Isle of Skye. For my last 10 years at the Library of Congress I was the Gaelic Recommending Officer for the Library of Congress, recommending and selecting books in Gaelic and about the Gaelic-speaking culture of Scotland and Ireland.

Beginning in December of 1986, I was a Descriptive Cataloger (Romance Languages) and later a Subject Cataloger (History and Social Sciences, primarily in French and Portuguese). In 2000, I transferred to Acquisitions and became a Senior Acquisitions Specialist for Portugal, Colombia, Ecuador, and Bolivia (including assisting with the Portuguese language receipts from Brazil). As the Gaelic Recommending Officer (2001-2011), I also taught Scots Gaelic to library employees who joined the Gaelic Language Table. The Table also sponsored concerts by visiting Scots Gaelic Mòd champions, the visiting female and male champions from the annual Scottish competition.

Taught English as a Foreign Language to university students, professionals, and politicians who needed English in their career efforts. I also had private students (bankers, politicians, athletes, and one artist). In addition to teaching, while I was in Lisbon, I was a political and sports stringer for Associated Press news service, Additionally, I played volleyball for the University of Lisbon club team.

Senior staff member for the House Subcommittee on Postal Personnel and Modernization. Managed daily correspondence, subcommittee hearing preparation and follow up, and tracking of related bills in other subcommittees/committees.

Teacher of American History, Beginning French, Beginning Spanish, and a new course in Latin American History. I also offered a one-semester research course for the senior students in genealogical research which we conducted primarily at the U.S. Archives after school hours.

Assisting foreign and domestic senior officers in their research and bibliographies as they complete their year-long assignment at this Pan American assignment for international cooperation in military, economic, and political matters. I infrequently assisted as a Spanish translator and managed all of the Portuguese and French bibliographic research in addition to a share in the Spanish language work.
