I have enjoyed being part of the dairy industry since February 2002. Prior to this I was a Detective in the NZ Police Force. My current role is Operations Manager for Pouarua Farms Limited. The business is made up of nine dairy units, a dry stock unit, and a blueberry farm. We supply Synlait, Green Valley Dairies and are the sole supplier within NZ of A2 milk into Lewis Road Creamery.I am a hands-on experienced leader. First and foremost, I am a people person. My belief is to provide an environment where quality people can grow and learn. To achieve this, we must grow a culture where we can maintain regular, open and honest communication.As a leader I set clear expectations and will monitor progress towards these expectations. The goal is to deliver great outcomes by empowering capable people and supporting them with systems and processes they need. I have the skills to be able to place the right people in the right position, and provide the support they need to be the best they can be.My skills have been gained by managing large numbers of cows, in multiple locations, and working with large numbers of staff. I enjoy the hands-on grass discussions. I enjoy planning in advance using technology to gather information on grass growth, saturation levels in the soil, wind and temperatures etc. I also enjoy finding solutions when mother nature changes her plans.I encourage my staff to look into the near future, discuss what they are thinking or planning, make suggestions if need be and ensure what is discuss does in fact happen. It takes all sorts to make the world go around. We need all all of those people, and effort by all those people to create a team, and a culture, and an environment where we are proud to turn up to work each day. Environmental compliance is ever changing, as the demand from the local and international community to become more sustainable grows. We need to embrace this. This needs to be a priority. I am dedicated and enjoy working on projects which see the community and business come together in dairying to support the environment. There are opportunities to create a presence and find solutions.I have experience creating efficiencies and productivity. Focus on planning, monitoring, and communicating is important. As is having a strong business team around you including mentors, colleagues and experts to collaborate with.
