Bureau Chief - Bureau Of Water Quality
CurrentAs Bureau Chief, my responsibilities include providing strategic direction and management oversight of the budget, capital, contractual, and human resources of the Water Quality Bureau which is comprised of three sections (Analytical Services laboratory, Water Quality Monitoring, and Comprehensive Assessment and Reporting) with a compliment of over 120 District staff. WQB staff include environmental scientists and technicians, water resource and environmental engineers and technicians, and chemists involved in water quality field monitoring and sampling, laboratory analysis, data validation, assessment and reporting in support of legal mandates and mission-driven projects. The WQB operates out of three locations: Headquarters in West Palm Beach, the Field Operations Center in West Palm Beach (FOC-WPB), and the Field Operations Center in Okeechobee (FOC-O). The WQB also operates a 36,000 square foot state-of-the-art Environmental Services Laboratory at the FOC-WPB which is certified by the Florida Department of Health and the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP). FOC field staff are involved in implementing innovative and cutting edge monitoring technology in virtually all of the Districts water resource areas covering lakes, rivers, canals, marshes, wetlands, and estuaries spanning the Kissimmee River, Lake Okeechobee, Everglades, and Coastal Estuary systems. Reporting section staff are involved in nearly all aspects of water resources reporting on both a project level and watershed scale for District environmental restoration and mission driven projects, including ongoing reporting as required by Clean Water Act permits issued by FDEP, USEPA, and USACE, and federal consent orders.
