I am a professional in the sport sector with over 25 years’ experience.I have followed a typical career path, which has included roles in the public, private and voluntary sport sectors managing teams of staff in varying roles including operational, development, elite and performance sport and coaching staff.I have focused my skills in recent years with Director of Sport roles within the Higher Education Sport sector at English and Welsh Universities as well as acting as a consultant to many sporting organisations. I have balanced my time to enable me to volunteer on for a number of sporting organisations including director roles on National Governing Body boards.I have developed short, medium and long term strategic papers. My knowledge, skills and experience of the sport sector has enabled me to translate the global organisations strategic plan and how sport can play a role in the performance, sustainability, recruitment, retention, experience, and employability of those it encounters.I have extensive commercial and financial experience working in a £500m turn over organisation with specific budget responsibility for c£2m. I have experience in growing organisation income and effectively managing expenditure whilst not impacting on key performance outputs.I have negotiated significant commercial partnerships leading to large capital projects and direct programme and scheme sponsorshipsI am the current chair of Welsh Student Sport. This follows my long term non-executive board role with specific responsibility for National Team squads in Football, Rugby, Netball, Basketball and Hockey. I have also previously been a member of the National Sports Advisory Group (SAG) for football which has the responsibility of liaising with the home nation governing bodies for football and setting the rules and regulations for the sport in the HE sector. I have experience in hosting and developing performance focused training camps and events including working along side LOCOG during the Olympics in 2012, the development of a global boxing training camps liaising with AIBA plus the hosting of numerous national teams. Hosting teams for the Commonwealth games in 2014 and also preparing to host ahead of 2022. This is in addition to the annual cycle of working with Welsh NGBs to support athletes and programs. Through this I have developed a sound understanding of the requirements of athletes, coaches, and organisations pre and during major competition as well as developing a fantastic and productive working network with senior staff within the sector.
