Case Management Officer
CurrentI joined the Scottish Prison service in September 2011. I completed all aspects of basic training at the Scottish Prison College. I was given the award of merit as best officer in my intake. I was assigned to HMP Dumfries. I have carried out all the duties of a prison officer running a gallery, carrying out daily security checks. I am responsible for prisoner’s welfare and sentence planning. I was previously in charge of the remand hall within HMP Dumfries. Where I manage 40+ prisoners on a daily basis and the many challenges that this entails. I was also in charge of two members of staff as part of a small team within the hall. My Current role is as a Case Management Officer, my role is to lead the management and assessment of selected low, medium and high-risk prisoners and prepare, implement, review and evaluate their sentence plans with them. I am required to build effective, appropriate and supportive relationships with prisoners, with the aim of reducing re-offending. My role involves liaison with other prisons, Social Work, Parole Board, Police, and other stakeholders as well as dealing with prisoners, solicitors and other interested parties.In addition to my duties at the establishment, I am a trained hostage negotiator on-call to deal with hostage incidents.
