Starting on SLT as Head of 21st Century Learning in a brand new tech-focused private school. Myddelton College started as a Microsoft Showcase School and I was tasked with establishing the 1:1 device programme, then training staff and students in the use of the Office 365 suite, particularly OneNote and Teams. We made heavy use of a technologically-rich flipped pedagogy and of the promotion of character. In January 2017 I was promoted to deputy head and then senior deputy head. As part of this role, I led on pastoral care, assemblies and technology. I was instrumental in the development of our pastoral and house system, technology and culture. I am a Raspberry Pi certified Computer Science teacher with an interest in the use of technology to leverage pedagogy and the application of 21st Century Learning Design, resulting in our inclusion in the EdTech 50 Schools report 2019. I set up a suite of Raspberry Pi computers in order that students learn coding through physical computing. Our students began to learn the basics of coding in year 5.

Perceiving a gap in the education sphere for teaching coding, I set up a part-time business, delivering contextualised STEM learning, taking a ‘portable Computer Science Suite’ using Raspberry Pi computers to schools. To help upskill teachers, I produced resources for teaching and learning programming, physical computing boxes of components and ran numerous training workshops for teachers in North Wales using Raspberry Pi computers.

I trained as an ICT teacher at St Brigid’s School, where I quickly introduced, and populated a school VLE. I also trained teaching staff how to use the VLE. I designed, planned and established a remote-controlled school observatory. I devised, planned and deployed dynamic new schemes of work for KS3, KS4 and 16+. I also devised, planned and designed 2 new ICT suites, enhanced library study facilities, managed technical support and a BYOD secure wireless access system. I was elected staff governor in 2008. I established a successful after-school astronomy club. During this period I produced and published 3D animations showing how RAM works, how the seasons work, the computing cycle, which were shared as teaching resources across Wales. Published guest posts for www.creativeeducation.co.uk.I was seconded to LEA from Sept 2009-March 2010 as a part time E-Learning Coordinator. This followed the successful roll out of the VLE in St Brigid’s School. I was tasked with promoting the effective use of the Moodle VLE in secondary schools across the county, developing themes for existing deployments and providing INSET and support to staff. I was promoted to Senior Leadership at St Brigid’s School in 2011, taking responsibility for academic and pastoral care of 14-19 year-old students. This involved creating revision plans, at this time I developed the Rainbow Revision Guide, to help students prepare more effectively for exams. I was also responsible for UCAS applications and in my final year was delighted to have a three of our 30 A level pupils successfully achieve entry into Oxbridge.

Provided training and support to school staff across 54 schools in the use of their MIS systems (Capita SIMS) including documentation, telephone and on-site technical support. Conceived, designed, developed and deployed systems including county-wide MIS backup routines, web-based team task tracking database, annual statutory return checking software, web-based questionnaire database application and automated housekeeping routines.
