Stuart Beaton has dedicated over 25 years to the advancement of EDI and data standards within the health care industry. Stuart is the primary author of both the 004010X092A1 and 005010X279 X12N 270/271 Health Care Eligibility Benefit Inquiry and Response Implementation Guides adopted for use under HIPAA. As co-chair of the Health Care Eligibility Work Group for X12N for more than 12 years, Stuart is recognized as the foremost authority on the 270/271 transaction in the industry, though his expertise and experience covers all of the HIPAA transactions. As Implementation Services Director at Secure Exchange Solutions, Stuart is leveraging his extensive health care data experience with assisting customers implement SES’s SPOT product. SPOT revolutionizes the intelligent analysis of clinical information at critical points of care and optimizes risk-based decision support by leveraging existing interoperability standards and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Stuart is also responsible for creating implementation documentation for SES’s Notify product which processes HL7 ADT messages from Hospital clients and forwards through Direct messages to the designated provider in a variety of formats including HL7 C-CDA, pdf and csv.Prior to his 13 years as an independent consultant, Stuart was Vice President of Washington Publishing Company. During his 4 years with WPC, he assisted many of WPC’s clients on the implementation of X12 HIPAA transactions, instructing Health Care EDI classes as well as conducting HIPAA Transaction and Code Set compliance analysis and numerous speaking engagements.
