Responsible for all business systems and delivery programs across Smiths Group on behalf of the five divisions: Medical, Detection, John Crane, Interconnect and FlexTek. Reporting to the Group CIO, part of the new Group IT leadership team which drove to globalise all IT activities at the end of 2009 as part of the new Smiths Business Information Services (SBIS) internal business. Tasked with building world-class processes and creating leverage opportunities delivering £15m per annum reduction in his IT costs, whilst delivering strategic information platforms to help the business make better information-based decisions. These are referenced in the Group’s annual reports.2010-2011 Created and led the AMS Outsourcing Project to completely transform the function from an internal / in-house model to an external, offshore, outsourced model with Capgemini India for all Applications Maintenance, Support & project delivery.In 2010, Smiths Medical was the winner of Oracle’s “Most Effective Managed Change” customer award for the program that Stuart led.In 2012, Smiths/Capgemini was short-listed by the National Outsourcing Awards for the "IT Outsourcing Project of the Year" for the program that Stuart led.

Appointed to the Oracle Customer Global Support Advisory Board in February 2013.

Prior to his group-wide role, Stuart worked for the Medical Division in progressively more senior positions where he latterly was the CIO & Director Global Business Transformation. From scratch, he transformed the IT function in to a global organisation, standardised the IT landscape and brought IT into the strategic agenda. He notably created the vision for Medical’s Business Transformation and ERP implementation and led the program to successful completion, whilst delivering an information platform into the business to help the business understand and leverage the power of these enterprise solutions. As well as significant operational benefits, the global business transformation program had achieved significant cost and inventory reduction benefits by the time the program had completed.

Promoted to CIO. Retaining all the responsbilities of my previous position as Global IT Director. Now reporting directly to the Group Managing Director as part of the management team. Additional responsibilities to deliver strategic business information to the company.

Dowty later became part of Polymer, TI and then Smiths Group PLC. This company now belongs to Trelleborg.During these 10 years, I worked as an MRP planner, computer operator, and for eight years as a developer / systems analyst working on MRP system enhancements and also as a Network Support Specialist. During this time, I was jointly responsible for the implementation of the Fourth Shift ERP system and migration from the ICL mainframe system.

During 1983 to 1987, I served my apprenticeship at most of the major Dowty locations and finally located with Dowty Mining. After the purchase of the Dowty group by TI Group and a subsequent sale of Dowty Mining, the company became Meco Mining. I subsequently left this company and re-joined TI Group which later became Smiths Group PLC
