I lead on the data strategy work-stream of NPL's 3 year Digital and Data strategy programme.I am responsible for the direction of NPL’s Digital product portfolio, defining and executing the strategy, transforming existing products & services, and building a future roadmap of new digital products and for leading the establishment of a Scientific Computing capability at NPL to help scientists make better use of data and technology.Previously, at the Building Research Establishment (BRE), I established and managed the Digital Products team in the design, creation and delivery of BRE's commercial software tools and internal business systems. I led on technical design and innovation of new BRE Digital Products, and set the objectives and long-term direction of BRE’s digital and data strategy. I also worked on the development of Building Information Modelling (BIM) products and services initially as BIM Technical Manager. Before joining the BRE, I worked as a Technical Research Officer at the Royal Institute of British Architects, contributing to specialist technical groups and industry standards bodies, as well as managing and developing RIBA research directives in the representation and use of data and knowledge management for BIM. I was the RIBA representative for the Construction Project Information Committee (CPIC) and sat on the Uniclass working group.I gained my PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Aberdeen and continued as a postgraduate researching Semantic Web technologies in virtual organisation formation and collaboration as part of Conoise-G, a project funded by the DTI and EPSRC in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Technologist of BT. At Aberdeen I also worked as part of the Advanced Knowledge Technologies (AKT) group, a six-year collaboration between groups at the Universities of Aberdeen, Edinburgh, the Open University, Sheffield and Southampton, providing integrated methods and services for the capture, modelling, publishing, reuse and management of knowledge.I have worked at the SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden where I helped design communication languages for distributed driving simulator prototypes, and at the University of Glasgow investigating the modelling and collaborative re-use of astronomy information as part of the International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA) data representation initiative.
